Color-by-Sight Words
Introduce or reinforce sight words. Color-by-Sight Words activity sets are great for morning work to get the mind ready for learning. Keep extras handy for early finishers, small group work and independent practice.
I start by having the students review the “legend” section first. For example, read the sight words and color the crayon accordingly.
Other things to keep in mind for early learners is to remind them proper pencil grip and taking their time to stay within the lines. Doing these little reminders add an early writing practice aspect to this activity. Emphasizing a proper pencil grip and staying within the lines with early learners will help with Penmanship greatly!

Fun Math Game! The idea of the “Rice Paddies” comes from the amazing author Malcolm Gladwell. In his book Outliers, his research attributes rice patties, as the root of Asian success with mathematics.
